I grew up loving Heifetz’s famous recording, considering it to be the best in its time, and it was (even though it seems trifle fast these days). But when I heard Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Berliner Philharmoniker, I fell in love again. She gave the 3rd movement such an elegant touch, bringing out the passion and beauty of this concerto. The orchestra is nicely balanced, too. I had the chance to see her perform this piece several years ago, and it was just splendid!

inspired by the film and this piece, ive checked many, many versions of this concerto, but have not found a single version with this much energy and attitude. just so much power and passion in this piece, not only mutter but what an amazing, extraordinary orchestra entity they have here…made me feel to the bone what it actually is about karajan that people pay so much respect to.

and daniel day-lewis is a god.
so is he the third revelation.

@ZenCopain christ, who cares what he did in his personal life, you know how terrible some of the best artists are/were??? judge the art not the artist…if you hated every artist who did a bad thing you wouldn’t be listening to any music, so top complaining

Brahms is okay, is piece of music of his is the best. He was a cat-hater, though. he used to shoot at cats in the street in the night with a bow and arrow. Still good music.

Fans of the movie, who are new to this concerto should know that there are two other movements that you should give a listen to. This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. Enjoy!
