How do I make the sound quality better on movies that I download?

I have a pay sight that I use to download movies and music from. A lot of the time I will download a movie that has great picture quality, and says that it is a DVD rip, but the back ground sound is way loader than the dialogue sound. It makes it unbearable to watch. Is there something that I can download to fix this? Like a certain codec or something? …
